How to Make It

Heat the oven and line baking sheets with parchment. Cream the butter and sugar, beat in the eggs, vanilla and almond extract, then mix in the flour, baking powder and salt to make a soft dough. Scoop tablespoon balls onto the sheets and bake until just set, without browning. Once they’re completely cool, whisk the glaze, dip the top of each cookie, and cover them with sprinkles right away before the glaze sets.

Tips for the Best Italian Christmas Cookies

  • Space them out. Leave 2 inches between cookies.
  • Don’t brown them. Bake until just set.
  • Cool completely. Glaze slides off warm cookies.
  • Dip the tops. An easy, even glaze.
  • Sprinkle fast. Add sprinkles before the glaze sets.
