Swedish meatballs in creamy gravy over mashed potatoes on a white serving platter

Slow Cooker Swedish Meatballs

The slow cooker does all the work, and you take all the credit! 😋 These Slow Cooker Swedish Meatballs start with a bag of frozen meatballs and turn into a creamy, savory dinner.

The meatballs cook in beef broth with Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder. A cornstarch slurry thickens the sauce, and sour cream at the end makes it creamy.

Spoon them over mashed potatoes and sprinkle with parsley.

Why You’ll Love It

  • Frozen meatball shortcut. No rolling meatballs by hand.
  • Hands-off. Put it in the slow cooker and walk away.
  • Creamy gravy. Beef broth, Worcestershire and sour cream make a rich sauce.
  • Comfort on a plate. Meatballs and gravy over mashed potatoes.
  • Party option too. Great for a holiday buffet with toothpicks.

  • Frozen homestyle meatballs: One 26 oz bag, straight into the slow cooker.
  • Beef broth: The base of the gravy.
  • Worcestershire sauce and garlic powder: For that savory, beefy flavor.
  • Cornstarch and cold water: Stir them together to thicken the sauce.
  • Sour cream: Stirred in at the end to make it creamy.

How to Make It

Put the frozen meatballs in your slow cooker, pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, and sprinkle the garlic powder over the top. Cook on LOW or HIGH until the meatballs are hot all the way through. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and cook a little longer, until the sauce thickens. Turn off the heat and stir in the sour cream until smooth. Spoon the meatballs and sauce over mashed potatoes and sprinkle with parsley.

Tips for the Best Slow Cooker Swedish Meatballs

  • Make the slurry first. Stir the cornstarch into the cold water before adding it so it doesn’t clump.
  • Low or high. Cook on LOW or HIGH, whichever works with your day.
  • Heat off for the sour cream. Turn off the heat before you stir in the sour cream.
  • Stir until smooth. Stir the sour cream until the sauce is smooth.
  • Serve over mashed potatoes. They soak up all that gravy.
