Witch Hat Cookies
The cutest little Halloween treat! 🧙♀️ These Witch Hat Cookies are chocolate cookies with a chocolate kiss pressed on top and an orange frosting “hat band”.
They start with a roll of refrigerated chocolate cookie dough, so there’s zero baking skill required. Press the kiss into the warm cookie, then pipe on the orange frosting and a little square buckle.
One roll makes 24 cookies, perfect for a class party or a Halloween platter.

- Orange frosting: Vanilla frosting tinted with orange food coloring works great.
You’ll find the exact amounts and steps in the printable recipe card below.
How to Make It
Heat the oven and line your baking sheets with parchment. Slice the cookie dough into 24 rounds, space them out on the sheets and bake until just set. Let them cool a few minutes, then press a chocolate kiss firmly into the center of each warm cookie. Once they’re completely cool, pipe a ring of orange frosting around the bottom of each kiss and add a little square ‘buckle’ on the front. Let the frosting set and they’re ready.
Tips for the Best Witch Hat Cookies
- Unwrap the kisses first. You need to press them in while the cookies are warm.
- Give them room. Space the dough 2 inches apart so they don’t run together.
- Press firmly. Push each kiss into the center so it sticks.
- Cool completely before frosting. Warm cookies will melt the frosting.
- Let the frosting set. A few minutes keeps the bands neat.
