A bag of caramel candies melted with a little heavy cream makes the coating. Then roll them in chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips or sprinkles if you like.

Only a handful of ingredients! 🍂

Why You’ll Love It

  • Easy caramel. Melt store-bought caramels with cream.
  • Your toppings. Peanuts, mini chocolate chips or sprinkles.
  • Fall classic. Like the ones at the fair.
  • Fun for kids. Rolling in toppings is the best part.
  • Few ingredients. Apples, caramels, cream and sticks.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Crisp apples: Washed and dried.
  • Caramel candies: One 11 oz bag, unwrapped.
  • Heavy cream: Melted in with the caramels.
  • Toppings: Chopped peanuts, mini chocolate chips or sprinkles (optional).
  • Wooden sticks: One for each apple.

You’ll find the exact amounts and steps in the printable recipe card below.

How to Make It

Push a wooden stick firmly into the top of each apple. Melt the caramels with the cream, stirring until smooth. Dip each apple, turning to coat, and let the extra caramel drip off. Roll them in toppings if you like, then set them on parchment until the caramel firms up.

Tips for the Best Homemade Caramel Apples

  • Dry the apples. Caramel sticks better to dry apples.
  • Push the sticks in firmly. So the apples don’t slide off.
  • Stir until smooth. Melt the caramels and cream completely.
  • Let it drip. Let the extra caramel drip off before setting them down.
  • Use parchment. They won’t stick while the caramel firms up.
